March 30 @ 4pm – McHugh Commons

The Colorado College’s Social Issues and Historical Contexts Initiative—a
three-year program of incarceration-related events and research projects
extend warm invitation to the Thursday, March 30 lecture, at 4 pm in McHugh
Commons featuring GEORGE DRAKE, former Dean of CC, President of Grinnell
College, and moving spirit behind Grinnell’s Liberal Arts in Prison Project,
will reflect on the robust relationship between a sister college in Iowa and
that state’s Department of Corrections, in which offenders in the medium
security facility at Newton are able to complete two full years of Grinnell
credit during their incarceration.

Drake’s presentation is entitled “WHY NOT A LIBERAL ARTS IN PRISON PROGRAM?”
Drake will invite discussion in advocacy of education as both prevention of
recidivism and fulfillment of civic responsibility in the liberal arts
tradition.
