Extraordinary intellectual distinction is a necessary but not a sufficient condition for election to a Rhodes Scholarship. Applicants need to demonstrate a commitment to making a difference. The Rhodes Scholarships are investments in individuals rather than in project proposals. Applications may come from talented students without restriction on their field of academic specialization or career plans. The proposed course of study must be available at Oxford, and the applicant’s undergraduate program must provide a sufficient basis for study in the proposed field. All educational costs, such as matriculation, tuition, laboratory, and certain other fees are paid on the Scholar’s behalf by the Rhodes Trustees. Each Scholar receives, in addition, a maintenance allowance adequate to meet necessary living expenses for term-time and vacations. The Rhodes Trustees cover the necessary costs of travel to and from Oxford. Application deadline is MARCH 15, 2017 (end of Block 6), with on-campus interviews conducted the 3rd week of Block 7. Application requirements: · Current junior or senior with a GPA of 3.7 or higher. · A short statement (250-300 words) explaining why you are interested in this scholarship and what you would do at Oxford. · Copy of your transcript and a brief, one-page resume of your major activities and honors. Send application materials to Professor George Butte, English Department. For more information, contact Professor Butte (gbutte@coloradocollege.edu) or www.rhodesscholar.org.
