Dear chairs,

Could you canvas your department colleagues to see if there are faculty teaching in Block 6 who would like to invite board members to visit their class on Feb 18 (first Wednesday of Block 6)?

Please let me know this week by Friday this week if your departmental faculty are interested in hosting. I don't need additional details at this point—just an "I am interested" response.

Change to field trip meals - starting Spring 2026

Effective Spring 2026, the option to charge students per diem meal reimbursements (formerly up to $20/day) will no longer be available as part of the standard course-related expense process, because it may be considered a hidden fee, which is an illegal practice under Colorado law. Dear chairs,
Here is the draft enrollment data for Spring 2026 pre-registration (from 3 of the 4 class years: rising sophomores, rising juniors, rising seniors).

Please review your enrollment — the column that says "NUMB_OF_DRAFTS" is the number of students who put down that course and block into their draft schedule. There is no "cap" on that number and students are not sorted into a waitlist. This is therefore the total number of students who picked that block into their draft Spring 2026 schedule.

In case you missed the posting on the Today at CC digest, the capital equipment request process has started and the portal is open. Kresge requests do not need to be submitted separately—please submit via the all-campus capital request form and eligible requests will be funded by Kresge. This increases clarity of the process and reduces paperwork (e.g., "let's submit the request to both Kresge and Cap to see which one can fund it")—just one submission is needed.

At our monthly Geology department faculty meeting we all became aware that the new rules for student academic performance includes a policy that one incomplete grade puts a student on Academic Warning (a level below Academic Probation). Being on Academic Warning includes a list of requirements that must be met (e.g., one must have a C- or better grade for the next four courses and no more incomplete grades) or the Warning becomes Academic Probation. Christina Rader and I have been planning an informal get together for chairs and directors, with drinks and appetizers, for this Friday, 4-5:30pm. We posted the invitation on the Teams channel today around 1pm. We were going to also announce it at the meeting today, as well, but Emily announced another event at her home that evening. We chatted with Emily after the meeting and we and her are both fine with both events happening. So, more opportunities for conversation!

I see in the Digest that we are now going to have to do quarterly reviews of our staff, which I understand many staff do NOT want. Even more, I’m not sure what the value added would be for the time it would take. I haven’t seen the format, so maybe it will be helpful, but I have my doubts. What happens in three months that would warrant such a review for an Admin Asst, for example? Is this something we can discuss at the next Chairs meeting? Or maybe this is NOT for all staff? It just comes

Thanks to your very thoughtful work on the course grids, when I merged all of your draft grids the course schedule looked nicely balanced. Kudos to all of you for this shared effort!!! Please move forward with building your courses in Banner, guided by the blocks/visitor positions that were approved in a previous email. This process opens today and closes on March 8. The Consortium for Faculty Diversity (CFD) database of candidates is available for you to search and identify potential hires. There are two ways CC faculty have used the database:

1. To search for a candidate to propose as a Riley Pre-doc/Post-doc Fellow.

2. To search for potential candidates to share hiring information for upcoming faculty positions (not Riley). The CFD database can search fellow records of the most recent three years.

While we were assembling the agenda for our Monday meeting (5/8), the final date/time of the CC panel on the upcoming SCOTUS and affirmative action was confirmed, and it is exactly at the same time as chairs meeting.

It is an important panel for us all, in our college leadership roles as chairs and directors, to attend this panel discussion. The SCOTUS decision could have broad ramifications for us as faculty. Happy end of block 7 everyone,

I’m following up from David’s earlier email to you all about difficulties in hiring paraprofessionals, and we are in a predicament this year as it turns out. Thanks Gail for your thoughts back in March about paraprofessionals and the timing and how things have changed post-Covid. Of course the pay IS meagre, and that is especially apparent to (re salary) for students graduating in computer science. Thanks Tricia also for your comments. I hope the Psych department had hiring success this year.

The first of two Leadership Workshops with Academic Impressions this spring is coming up on March 15. This session will explore strategies to create an environment to support healthy conflict and constructively resolve personnel issues. Participants will be asked to complete the Kraybill assessment, a tool that identifies preferred approaches to resolving conflict. Through the results of the Kraybill assessment and additional resources, participants will gain strategies to effectively navigate difficult situations in the workplace.

One of the campus-wide initiatives to support mental health awareness and suicide prevention is to make available the QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) training to all staff and faculty.

Thank you for a helpful meeting yesterday, and the input you shared in person and by email before and after the meeting. One suggestion we heard from many of you was the importance of creating spaces for student community in addition to the chaplain's office programming space or a wellness-mental-health office space. I carried our ideas and comments to Cabinet meeting on Tuesday (one of many cabinet meetings where we will continue to review and discuss mental health, death, and other emergencies). Folks found faculty input and your observations from working with students very helpful.
