Dear all,

I know that most of you won't have occasion to use this directly for your
research, but more of you have students who might find these primary
documents useful as they do theirs. So I wanted you to know that we
managed to secure this important collection with a combination of
restricted funds in the dean's office, end of the year monies in the
library, and, as Steve points out, Carol Dickerson's ability to wangle a
deal in light of financially difficult times.

The on-line collection has materials in science, literature,
philosophy---and much more. Take a moment to explore it!

Susan

Subject: We now have Eighteenth Century Collections Online!

Dear English faculty, (including Professor Richman),

I am very pleased to announce that we now have access to Eighteenth
Century Collections Online (ECCO), the full-text archive of darn near
everything printed in the UK in the 18th Century.

Jared Richman had inquired about the possibility of our getting this
database. We had looked at it several years ago, but decided it was
too expensive. But with this renewed interest, we looked again. Thanks
to Carol Dickerson's excellent negotiating skills and some money sent
our way by Dean Ashley, we were able to purchase perpetual access to
the database for a very reasonable price.

The database is an excellent companion to Early English Books Online
(EEBO), a similar full-text database for books published in the UK
from 1475 - 1700, which we already own.

Eventually we intend to have records for the individual titles in ECCO
in the TIGER catalog. Until then you can access ECCO through its
record in TIGER, or through Tutt Library's database listings, or by
using the link below:

As always, I welcome your questions.

-Steve
