Dear all,
Divisional executive committee chairs and research and development
representatives met today and among other things talked about expenses for
conference travel. The current allocation of $175 per day (increased from
$125 three years ago) doesn't always cover hotel and food expenses,
particularly when conferences meet in large cities.
We want the funds to support as many faculty members as possible, while
providing as much help as we can to each person for conferences. With
this in mind, we decided to increase the maximum per diem to $200 a day
(hotel and food) for pre-tenure faculty members.
The new maximums apply to pre-tenure faculty who 1) apply to the Dean's
Office for support for one professional conference a year and who are
presenting a paper or participating in the conference in an official
capacity (others receive travel and registration but not per diem) and 2)
request funds from divisional committees for attendance at second
conferences.
We'll try the limits for this year and see if the available funds cover
the additional costs.
