Dear all,

We learned this afternoon that the Mellon Foundation awarded us $509,000 to support languages at CC.  Added to the last two-year grant, this represents close to $1M to promote language study at CC.

Many of you took good advantage of the last grant.  This one (see attachment) includes funding for intensive language study for faculty, course development grants, language-based area studies, and workshops for technology and pedagogy.

You'll soon hear specifics about applying for funds.  In the meantime, if you want to hone existing language skills, or learn a new language,or develop FLAC courses or classes for the Mediterranean Semester, start planning now.

Many colleagues participated in the discussions which led to the grant, and Nicole Rivet played a key role in shaping the proposal.  Thanks to all of you.
