Good evening,

During this time before and after the Fiscal Year, I thought it might be helpful to pass along the behavior of many of our reports and systems with a few tips for how to capture information that might be helpful to have after June 30th.

Possible Experience: A CONGOS report or data request is run/received and no data or very small counts/sums are present in the output.

Detail: Many of our COGNOS reports and sections of code have mechanisms that automatically flip the Fiscal year on July 1st.  This will happen on July 1st even though the books will not close for FY2016 until a week or two into the new fiscal year (2017).

Reason: Automating the change to the new Fiscal Year in reports and code lessens the overall error rate, complies with reality and improves our response time.

Action:

·         Run reports on or before June 30th and save the output to the location of your choice (outside of COGNOS) if it will be needed later.

·         During this transitional period, when requesting information from the data team, articulate the desired Fiscal Year using numbers (i.e. FY2016 or FY2017) instead of using terms like Current Fiscal Year.

·         Go to the Advancement End of FY party!

Sincerely,

Carolyn
