Welcome back for Block 5!
[Diagram Description automatically generated]With COVID Omicron levels still high across the U.S., basic risk mitigation practices like wearing masks are imperative to keeping our community safe. As you're probably aware, everyone on campus is currently required to wear masks when inside campus buildings. For added protection, the college is requiring use of KN95 masks (or similar aerosol filtering masks such as N95, KF94, or FFP2) in all indoor public spaces. We encourage you to wear your mask not only when on campus, but also when visiting off-campus public locations like stores.
You can also help keep everyone safe and healthy by reminding folks on campus who aren't wearing their masks to put their masks on and/or to wear their mask properly (fully covering the nose and mouth).
You can get a "Wearing is Caring" sticker in the WRC!

Stalking Awareness Month is drawing to a close this week, but you can learn more about stalking at the Stalking Prevention and Awareness Resource Center<https://www.stalkingawareness.org/> and about the confidential resources available to you on our website<https://www.coloradocollege.edu/other/wellness/sarp/support-reporting.html>.

All of the WRC Programs You Can Rely On are happening this block:

  * Journaling Series every 2nd Tuesday at 3:30pm in the WRC

· This Block: Developing a Stress Mindset Through Values Reflection: How we think about the things that create stress in our lives impacts our ability to cope with those stresses. When people reflect on their values in the midst of stressful situations, they tend to see themselves as more capable of dealing with adversity, more likely to engage in positive action, and less likely to procrastinate. In this workshop, we'll use a journaling exercise to focus on how connecting with our values can help us manage stressful events.

  * Mindful Stress Management every 3rd Tuesday at 4pm in the WRC
     * Experiencing stress is a part of life that can be overwhelming and challenging, but we can build our capacity to respond to stressful situations. Join us to explore how mindfulness practices may help your stress management.
  * Dating After Abuse Workshops 3rd Mondays of Blocks 5 & 7 in the WRC
     * 3:00-4:30pm: A workshop for survivors of abuse who are interested in starting to date again or who are looking for strategies for improving current relationships.
     * 5:00-6:30pm: A workshop for partners and friends of survivors of abuse who are interested in learning strategies for supporting survivors and building health relationships.

The Wellness Resource Center is open Monday through Friday!
Resources available in the WRC include our Lending Library, Journaling Prompts and Materials (including materials for creative journaling like found word poetry or collaging), Art Supplies, Sleep Tips and Resources, Sexual Health Supplies, Switch Gaming System, a Wonderful Mountain View, plus Anna Thompson and Heather Horton!

WRC Lending Library Block 5 Featured Book: Daring Greatly by Brené Brown
Based on twelve years of pioneering research, Brené Brown PhD, MSW, dispels the cultural myth that vulnerability is weakness and argues that it is, in truth, our most accurate measure of courage. Brown explains how vulnerability is both the core of difficult emotions like fear, grief, and disappointment, and the birthplace of love, belonging, joy, empathy, innovation, and creativity. She writes: "When we shut ourselves off from vulnerability, we distance ourselves from the experiences that bring purpose and meaning to our lives."
Daring Greatly is not about winning or losing. It's about courage. In a world where "never enough" dominates and feeling afraid has become second nature, vulnerability is subversive. Uncomfortable. It's even a little dangerous at times. And, without question, putting ourselves out there means there's a far greater risk of getting criticized or feeling hurt. But when we step back and examine our lives, we will find that nothing is as uncomfortable, dangerous, and hurtful as standing on the outside of our lives looking in and wondering what it would be like if we had the courage to step into the arena-whether it's a new relationship, an important meeting, the creative process, or a difficult family conversation. Daring Greatly is a practice and a powerful new vision for letting ourselves be seen.
If you like Daring Greatly, you might also be interested in the book Brown co-edited with Tarana Burke: You Are Your Best Thing. Vulnerability, Shame Resilience, and the Black Experience, which is also in the WRC Lending Library.
